The national pro-choice campaign

Press Release: Abortion Rights solidarity protest at the US Embassy in London (Nine Elms) at 6PM tonight (3rd May)!

Responding to a leaked Supreme Court draft opinion that would overturn Roe v. Wade, which was published by Politico today, Chair of the Abortion Rights campaign in Britain, Kerry Abel said:

“Repealing the right to abortion in the US will send shockwaves out across the world. We cannot sit still and watch our rights be taken away from us. The sad truth is that the events of the last year in US have demonstrated how insecure abortion rights are all over the globe.

“Now, the most powerful country in the world could rule out the right for abortion in a matter of months. This emboldens the minority here who want to restrict our right and access to abortion. Instead of putting the clock back we need to ensure the right to abortion is secure everywhere, including the UK where we still have abortion in our criminal code. Decriminalisation of the abortion law in Britain is the first step, we defend the right to free, legal and safe abortion.

“Abortion Rights has organised a solidarity protest outside the US embassy in London tonight and we want to be as loud and clear as possible that abortion rights are human rights and they are healthcare that keep women alive.

“We will be joined by Monica Cardenas of Democrats Abroad and many other supporters of worldwide abortion rights.”

According to the draft, the court will overturn the Roe v. Wade decision that has guaranteed a federal constitutional right to an abortion since 1973. This would be the most damaging abortion decision in decades and transform the landscape of reproductive rights in the US and worldwide.

Show your solidarity by joining our protest tonight at 6 PM at the US Embassy in London in defence of abortion rights! Bans off our bodies!
