Press Release: Abortion Rights march to the US Embassy in London this Saturday 14 May
10/05/2022
Abortion Rights will march to the US Embassy this Saturday 14 May in solidarity with mass protests in the US on the same day. Pro-choice organisations across the US have called for demonstrations in cities across the US on Saturday to protest at the prospect of the Supreme Court overturning of the Roe v. Wade guaranteeing the legal right to abortion.
Kerry Abel, Chair of Abortion Rights said: “We stand in solidarity with everyone fighting to defend the right to access abortion in the US. Losing the right to abortion will not stop abortions it will just make them more dangerous, especially for poorer women.
“If abortion rights are abolished in the US it will give confidence to anti-abortion campaigners in Britain, Poland and elsewhere. We are already seeing aggressive pickets of abortion clinics in Britain
“Instead of putting the clock back we need to ensure the right to abortion is secure everywhere, including inBritain where we still have abortion in our criminal codewith a law from the 19th century. Decriminalisation of the abortion law in Britain is the first step, we defend the right to free, legal and safe abortion.
“We will be joined on Saturday by Democrats Abroad, trade unionists, pro-choice doctors and many other activists. We call on everyone who is pro-choice to join us on the march.”
The Roe v. Wade decision has guaranteed a federal constitutional right to an abortion since 1973. A leaked majority opinion from the Supreme Court indicates this will be overturned next month. This would be the most damaging abortion decision in many decades and would transform the landscape of reproductive rights in the US and worldwide.
Show your solidarity by joining our protest, which will assemble, appropriately, at the statue to leading campaigner for women’s right to vote, Millicent Garrett Fawcett in Parliament Square in London at 4pm.
Bans off our bodies!
