Abortion Rights extends solidarity to women in the Netherlands who have had abortion access denied

15/04/2020

According to a Women On Waves report on Friday, a Dutch judge has offered no relief to women who are now waiting for an abortion and cannot leave their home.

In comparison, the UK government have allowed at-home abortions not response to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Kerry Abel, Chair if Abortion Rights said:
‘This judgement seems particularly cruel and forcing women to attend clinics for their abortions is an entirely unnecessary measure, especially when healthcare systems are under strain and leaving the house is dangerous.

‘We have been making the case for at-home abortions, telemedicine and decriminalising abortion for some time. Women on Waves have pioneered this and we are in complete solidarity with those campaigning for sensible measures in the Netherlands.’
