Poland: Don’t let Poland ban abortion under cover of COVID-19
As protests are forbidden under lockdown, The Polish government is accused of manipulating the pandemic to push through regressive new laws.
This week Poland’s parliament will consider two bills that seek to ban abortion and criminalize LGBT education.
The legislation under discussion was originally introduced in March 2018 and October 2019, both were met by mass street protests and stalled.
The human rights of Polish women and adolescents are being under threat by their government. Poland already has some of the most restrictive laws on abortion in the EU, yet the government is proposing to strip women of their reproductive rights altogether.
Kerry Abel Abortion Rights Chair said: Abortion Rights stands in solidarity with Polish women & against the country’s proposed draconian abortion laws, it’s unconscionable that the authorities are using the cover of the pandemic to sneak through dangerously regressive bills into law.
