Trade Union messages to pro-choice Abortion Rights Rally Edinburgh 2nd October 2021
Edinburgh Trades Council
Edinburgh Trade Union Council represents the trade union movement in the City of Edinburgh and has 30 affiliated trade union branches. We are totally opposed to the clock being out back decades. The attack in Texas is a real attack on women’s health.
UNISON Edinburgh City Council Branch
UNISON City of Edinburgh sends your gathering today our support.
We will support you in any way that we can.
To all in Texas and across the world I commit that we will support a woman’s right to choose with all the resources that we have.
We condemn all vile attacks on women and those aiming to support them.
Pease do not hesitate to contact us if you need further support.
IN SOLIDARITY
Tom Connolly
Branch Secretary
UNISON Scotland Women’s Committee
UNISON Scotland Women’s Committee sends our sororal greetings the abortion rights campaign rally and we are proud to stand in solidarity with women in Texas. The draconian measures introduced in Texas is an outright attack on a women’s right to control what happens to her body and will set gender equality back decades. The right to choose is both a class and trade union issue and the fight to defend this right both in the UK and overseas is an important issue for our committee.
In solidarity
Dr. Davena Rankin
Chair, UNISON Scotland Women’s Committee
UNITE Edinburgh and Forth Not For Profit Branch
This branch has 1300 members of whom 70% are women. Our branch has supported Abortion Rights ever since the branch was formed in 1980. We restate again the longstanding support of Unite for a woman’s right to choose in Scotland and pledge our solidarity with the pro-choice voice across the United States. We stand together with all of you here to protest the new law in Texas which has shut down safe legal access to abortion in that state since 1st September.
We salute clinics and health care staff who have continued to provide choice and care to women despite harassment and threats of violence and those holding counter protest vigils across from Chalmers Clinic here in Edinburgh.
EIS-FELA branch Edinburgh College
The EIS-FELA branch committee of Edinburgh College wishes to send a message of solidarity and support to the women in Texas facing this appalling reduction in their right to control their own fertility. Those who can make it along to the protest on the Meadows in Edinburgh tomorrow will demonstrate in person, but all are fully behind your struggle for your fundamental rights.
In sisterhood
