Press Release: Abortion Rights welcomes Edinburgh Council move to back ‘buffer zones’ to tackle clinic harassment

25/02/2021

STARTS

Introduction of 150 m ‘buffer zones’ around abortion clinics in Scotland – to prevent women from being harassed by pro-life campaigners.

Abortion Rights Edinburgh has been campaigning for a number of years on this issue, but a previous vote in the Council fell. This week’s success follows the presentation of a petition, with nearly 5,000 signatures, which was organised by the group ‘Back off Scotland’ and followed a survey of people attending the Chalmers sexual health clinic in Edinburgh.

We would like to thank Back off Scotland and the group Organising for pro-choice vigils, Edinburgh for all their hard work. We will all continue to campaign for a Scotland-wide policy.
