Roe Reckonings: Held Hostage by a Heartbeat
In Georgia, Adriana Smith, a 30-year-old woman, nurse and mother, lies brain dead—kept on life support not for her own survival, but for the survival of the nine-week-old foetus she was carrying when her life ended.
Doctors say she cannot be saved. Her family is grieving. Her six-year-old son believes she is “sleeping.” But none of that matters—because of a law.
Under Georgia’s Living Infants Fairness and Equality (LIFE) Act also known as the “Heartbeat Bill”, Adriana must remain on life support until her foetus reaches viability, even though her brain is no longer functioning. Even though her body is deteriorating. Even though her family is living through a slow-motion nightmare.
This isn’t healthcare. This isn’t “pro-life”. This is cruelty codified.
Adriana was almost nine weeks pregnant when she began experiencing intense headaches. She was discharged without proper testing
and later collapsed due to blood clots in her brain. By the time doctors realised the severity, it was too late, that was when she was declared brain dead.
But because a foetal heartbeat had once been detected, her body is now legally obligated to remain on life support. Her mother calls it “torture”. Her doctors call it a legal bind. Her lawmakers call it justice.
The truth? She is no longer being treated like a person. She is a **vessel**, used by the state for forced gestation.
The Big Lie Behind the “Pro-Life” Banner
The anti-abortion movement has long claimed to be about protecting life. But when you look past the slogans, what you find is a legal system that systematically **harms** women and pregnant people:
- It **criminalises doctors** for providing medically necessary care.
- It **delays treatment** until patients are near death.
- It **forces birth** in cases of rape, incest, or fatal foetal conditions.
- It **keeps brain-dead women alive** to use their bodies as incubators.
None of this protects life. It sacrifices real, living people.
This Is What Abortion Bans Actually Do
Let’s be blunt: abortion bans don’t create safer pregnancies or protect families. They **manufacture suffering**.
They are written without medical expertise, enforced without compassion and championed by politicians who are more interested in control than care. The result is Adriana. The result is chaos in emergency rooms. The result is trauma, grief and needless death.
These laws say they protect the unborn—but they do so by **sacrificing the already living**.
What We’re Fighting For
We fight for Adriana and her family.
We fight for the next person who will be told their body is no longer their own.
We fight to expose the truth: **the pro-life movement is not about life—it’s about control.**
If you’re reading this, you’re part of the movement to take back our rights. Keep showing up. Keep speaking up. Keep fighting for dignity, autonomy, and truth.
