Pro-Choice Protest!

Anti-choice group 40 Days for Life are currently staging a 40 day protest at the Bpas clinic in Bloomsbury, central London. They are outside every day, 8am to 8pm, praying, approaching people entering and leaving the clinic, handing out inaccurate information and on at least one occasion filming staff and clients.
They’re part of a growing tide of anti-choice activity, which is increasingly mimicking the tactics of hardline US groups – from harassing women attempting to access abortion services, to hacking the websites of providers, to targeting those who rent premises to clinics.
Pro-choice groups have not staged counter-protests against the 40 Days for Life campaign during clinic hours: it increases anti-choice numbers and often makes the situation worse for service users.
But on Friday 30th March, 40 Days for Life will be joined in Bedford Square by Bishop Alan Hopes for an evening ‘prayer vigil’ outside the Bpas clinic. Abortion Rights will be joining a peaceful counter-protest alongside other pro-choice groups and we hope you will be able to join us.
Women attempting to access a legal medical service must be able to do so without fear of harassment or intimidation. It’s time for the UK’s pro-choice majority to say we’ve had enough of this kind of behaviour and to stand up for our right to safe, legal abortion.
