Pro-choice campaigners announce Stand Up for Choice counter-protest in London

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Abortion Rights will mobilise in Parliament Square as March for Life UK returns to the capital

Abortion Rights has announced Stand Up for Choice 2026, its annual counter-protest to March for Life UK, taking place in Parliament Square on Saturday 5 September at 1pm.

Pro-choice campaigners, trade unions and supporters will gather at the Millicent Fawcett Statue as March for Life UK takes to the streets of London.

They’re marching to roll back our rights. We’re standing up for choice.

The demonstration comes amid growing concern about the organisation and influence of anti-abortion groups in Britain, including their links with well-funded anti-choice and right wing movements in the US and internationally.

While Britain has made important progress on abortion rights, campaigners warn that those gains cannot be taken for granted.

Kerry Abel, Chair of Abortion Rights, said:

“Abortion rights were fought for, and they have to be defended. We’ve seen what happens when anti-abortion movements are allowed to build political power, and we cannot assume Britain is immune.

“March for Life wants to present opposition to abortion as a growing mainstream movement. Stand Up for Choice is about showing the reality: there is a strong, organised pro-choice movement in Britain and we are not going backwards.”

Abortion Rights is calling on pro-choice organisations, trade unions, campaigners and members of the public to join the demonstration and show that attempts to roll back abortion rights will be met with resistance.
