Press Release: Nothing ‘pro-life’ about about anti-abortion extremists

In response to the news today of an incident outside the Chalmers abortion clinic in Edinburgh, Abortion Rights’ Vice Chair Jillian Merchant said:

“Abortion Rights condemns the alleged assault of a 61-year-old, pro-choice activist, who was left traumatised after the driver allegedly plowed into their legs with a car and speed off towards the Meadows after shouting the chilling threat ‘do you want to see tomorrow?’ 

“Women seeking a legal medical service, and the health-care professionals who provide them, should be free from acts of violence, harassment and intimidation. “There’s nothing pro-life about this anti-choice extremism.”

“The well funded ‘pro-life’ movement is becoming increasingly emboldened and this is a worrying example. These tactics and intimidation of women are straight out of the US extreme far right playbook.”
