The national pro-choice campaign

Petition: Don’t let March For Life bully us out of our right to choose!

We are appalled that the US-inspired “March For Life” event is taking place once again this year, in central London, on September 4. This event calls for a complete ban on abortion, and groups that participate in the event are those same bullies who intimidate and harass people seeking reproductive healthcare outside clinics.

We are a pro-choice majority country and we do not accept nor welcome fearmongering and attempts to roll back our hard-won rights. We refuse to stand idly by as the antis try to intimidate us and take away our right to choose. Abortion Rights will be holding a counter-protest on the day, and we invite you to join us. We also ask that you sign this petition to make a stand against those who would see us controlled and oppressed.

The pro-choice majority will never let March For Life bully us out of our right to choose!

We the undersigned are dismayed to see that the US-inspired “March for Life” event is once again going to rally in Parliament Square in central London, on 4 September.

March for Life calls for a complete banning of women’s right to access reproductive health care and abortion services. Their slogan “Life from conception, no exceptions” means they want to set women’s rights back by decades.

Groups involved in March for Life include those that harass women attending abortion clinics, including photographing and filming women.

It also includes groups that run centres posing as sources of advice and support for women facing a crisis pregnancy. Such centres have been found to offer misleading and false information to women about abortion, and some advocate the “unproven and potentially dangerous” treatment, coined “abortion reversal”. This originated in the anti-abortion lobby in the US and two doctors in the UK, Dermot Patrick Kearney and Eileen Reilly, who have taken part in March for Life panels, are under investigation by the GMC for prescribing this “treatment”.

The March for Life coalition brings together Trump supporters as well as far right, racist and homophobic campaigners – it includes in its US leadership members of anti-LGBTQ hate groups.

This organisation stands in opposition to fundamental principles of equality and women’s rights. We need to highlight the fact that abortion in Britain is common, safe and legal. One in three women will have an abortion, and making it illegal or difficult to access only pushes it into the backstreet where women will die.

Generations have fought for women’s right to control our fertility. There is a pro-choice majority in Britain and Abortion Rights is committed to showing the anti abortion lobby that March for Life is not welcome and we will defend a woman’s right to choose.

Join our counter-protest on the day or donate to our fighting fund to make a stand against the US anti-abortion movement using this rally to deepen its roots in Britain.
