Press Release re: New Measures Allowing At-Home Abortions

Abortion Rights are pleased the government has announced measures to allow at-home abortions.

Abortion Rights Chair Kerry Abel said:

“We have been saying for a long time that this is a safe form of abortion. The medical abortion pill Misoprostol has been on the World Health Organisation (WHO) list of essential medicine for some time.

This is a sensible measure and we will monitor access to ensure that there is no postcode lottery for women.

We have stated before that decriminalising abortion and rolling out telemedicine for women in early pregnancy would ensure that abortion, which is part of basic healthcare, is accessible to as many people who need it as possible.”

The Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG) have also previously called for easier access to this essential healthcare, whilst the WHO have provided guidelines for self-managed abortion.
